Power Rangers: Mystic Force Reviews
ByYes I admit that I watch Power Rangers Mystic Force and this would be one of those guilty pleasures. Those two words are applied to various shows but I would say this is one in the true sense at least the meaning I apply to it. A guilty pleasure is something that you watch and at the same time are kinda embarrassed by the fact that you watch it. This show falls into that category.
I never really watched Power Rangers Mighty Morphin but caught pieces of it before a show I watched after it so I knew about it. Imagine my surprise when I found out that the show was going on still only in different forms. So I saw the commercial for this version and decided to check it out and I liked it.
This incarnation takes place in Briarwood instead of Angel Grove which is where the majority of the previous seasons took place. Yes there is a cheese factor but I enjoy watching this show and was sorry to see it come to an end. It is funny how the characters had mouths that don’t open when they talk. Can’t they make monsters etc with mouths that actually open and close when they are supposed to be talking? I suppose that makes dubbing easier.
Once again the leader is a guy. The only time a girl has been in charge of the Rangers has been limited like in the case of the Alien Rangers and later A Squad that went evil on SPD. Why is that? Aside from that why not have a guy that’s a Pink Ranger. Those are just my thoughts on the matter.
Nick is the Red Ranger who comes to Briarwood where his life changes forever. He is played by Nick Firass. Nick comes to town and finds not only friends but family as well in the form of parents that he thought were dead as well as a cousin.
A few familiar faces or at least names turn up as people from prior seasons star in this one. Atonia Prebble plays Clare who is studying to become a full fledged Sorceress. She has starred in other versions as a guest and she also played Trudy on The Tribe. So every time she’s on something she has a different hair color from purple to brunette to blonde.
Barnie Duncan plays Toby who owns a record store where the gang works. He starred in the previous season of SPD as Piggy but this time you get to see his face. He does appear as Piggy since he must have lived in Briarwood before moving to New Tech City which is where he lives in 2025 since that show took place in the future while this one took place in the present.
Kelson Henderson plays Phineas a troblin which is a result of a troll and a goblin
getting together and having a kid. In SPD you could see his face as Boom where he played the gadgets guy. He is a total sweetie and a pretty good fighter. He is friends with the Rangers.
Angie Diaz plays Vida the Pink Ranger who ironically hates the color although at the end she seems to finally embrace it. She has a sister who is also a fellow Ranger Madison. She is played by Melanie Vallejo who is the Blue Ranger. She’s the shy sister while Vida is the more outgoing one.
Richard Brancatianno plays Xander the Green Ranger. At first he’s a more try to talk rather than fight but he becomes a really great fighter. Nic Sampson plays Chip the Yellow Ranger.
Peta Rutter plays Udonna who turns out to be Nick’s mom. She is the White Ranger and a Sorceress. Her lost lost husband turns out to be Korragg in other words Leanbo who was under a dark magic spell. I figured this out before it was revealed but that could be explained by the fact that I’m not seven.
John Tui’s face is finally seen in this version since in SPD he was Doggie Krueger a big dog. Daggeron is a cutie well as the Solaris Knight and a dear friend of Udonna. He was trapped in a cave for nineteen years which does wonders for the skin.
Of course every show has to have the bad guy so of course monsters abound in this place. The Master is the big bad who is trapped in a big pit. The minions are Hidacs who pop up to cause an annoyance. Korragg’s not the typical bad guy since he has honor and he’s a good guy under an evil spell. Necrolai is Queen of the Vampire who has a daughter named Leelee. She turns out to be a hottie when she is turned back to human. I never understood why she looked like a bat while her daughter didn’t.
So the secret is out I actually enjoyed this show. The theme song is quite catchy and better than prior ones which weren’t always big winners. I don’t know why I like the show but I do for some reason. Maybe it’s New Zealand and the fact that Xena is one of my all time favorite shows. Maybe it’s the lack of oxygen to the brain that has affected me since I was forced to move to Colorado.
